Suzan and Buzz chat with Madison Shakespeare Company Executive Director Jason Compton about their upcoming readings.

Madison Shakespeare Company will conduct two special stage readings of “Shakespeer” plays–works written by contemporaries of William Shakespeare.

The first is Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. July 20, 2017 at Arts + Literature Laboratory, 2021 Winnebago St, Madison. 7 PM start time.

Faustus is the non-Shakespeare work most commonly requested by MSC patrons and a classic tale of the ultimate ill-conceived bargain. Our performance will be based on the “A” text.

The second is Edward IV, by Thomas Heywood (?). August 17, 2017 at Arts + Literature Laboratory, 2021 Winnebago St, Madison. 7 PM start time.

This lesser-known work chronicles key events in the battlefield and bedchamber of one of England’s tallest kings, who traded reigns with Henry VI and was directly responsible for putting Richard III in line for the throne.

Both events are free open to the public, with contributions gratefully accepted. Each presentation will last approximately 90 minutes.

Suzan and Buzz talk with playwright/director Morganna Grim about Broom Street Theater's production of her play, "Her Dream, A Pen, and A Book".

Her Dream, a Pen, and a Book

By Morganna Grim

Directed by Morganna Grim, with original music composed and performed by Baltimore Krahn, and choreography by Loryn Jonelis

"Let's start where it's simplest to look: with a girl, her Dream, a pen, and a book."

Welcome to Cape Cache, a village cursed centuries ago to remain apathetic and complacent against the trials and joys of the world. Along with this infliction came the mysterious Dreams, guardians from another world to inspire children as they grow up. With their guidance, everything should be in order - but the scales are tipped when families reject the Dreams, and the solemn Corvid swoops in to steal them away. Catry of Cache and Todd the Dream set out to reunite a lost pair in a whimsical fantasy tale of goodwill, hope, and sacrifice.

Produced by Broom Street Theater at Broom Street Theater, 1119 Williamson Street, Madison

Performances: July 13-29, 2017

Performance Times:
Starting July 13th, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in July at 8pm.

Ticket Prices: $11
